Keeping Sustained PBIS Program Engagement
Fortunately, program fatigue is felt less often with PBIS than with some other types of behavior plans. When set up and implemented properly, it becomes an easy system to run, and the benefits make it a worthwhile activity to keep up. Once kids catch on that they can be incentivized for behaviors, they start acting more positively, which makes teachers and students happy.
But there are a few things that can help keep your SWPBIS program exciting for students and teachers:
KEEP FINE-TUNING YOUR INCENTIVES
If your PBIS program does not offer incentives that students actually care about, it will not be successful. This may require a bit of trial-and-error with what incentives you have for your students.
INCENTIVIZE YOUR TEACHERS
While your teachers are working hard to appoint positive points for and incentivize students, why not recognize them for their effort in making the program successful? You can reward the teachers with the highest logged points. Maybe they get your parking spot for the week, or get an extra planning period. Providing incentives for teacher participation will make it more fun for them, too.
* TIP: Have a “Track your Teacher Day,” where students recognize and give points to the teachers that are doing good things throughout their day.
